Palliative Care:
Palliative care is the treatment, care and support for people living with an illness that can’t be cured. The aim is to give someone the best quality of life in their end-of-life care.
Palliative care is care that helps people with a life-limiting or terminal illness to live their life as fully and comfortably as possible. The aim is to give someone the best quality of life possible in their end-of-life care and it is centered around the person and their family.
Palliative Care focuses on providing relief from the symptoms, pain and stress of a serious illness for the person and their family. It can involve many different healthcare professionals and workers taking care of physical, emotional and spiritual needs. These may include relief of pain and other symptoms, treatments to slow the disease, emotional and spiritual support, counselling and grief support, provision of equipment for use at home and links and referrals to other services.

Medical Cannabis may be considered as part of the therapy for any person with advanced, life-limiting illness if their symptoms have not been relieved by other treatments. It may also be useful in treating side-effects from multiple medications.
Medical cannabis seems to be well tolerated as an effective and safe option for cancer patients and is endorsed by palliative care providers for a wide range of symptoms.
There are limited studies on the use of medical cannabis in palliative care, so it should only be used after standard treatments have failed or if the treating doctor recommends it. Medicinal cannabis may interact with chemotherapy and other medications used in palliative care.
